How to choose which website builder is right for you and your business
If you’re looking to DIY your website and aren’t sure which website builder is right for you and your business, there are some important aspects to keep in mind when shopping around for your future website.
Determine your website budget
If you’re looking to create your own website but you’re starting up and new to the business world, or not completely sure how much money you’d like to invest in a website, know that each website host offers their own pricing plans.
While some offer free trials, others may offer forever-free website plan options. On average, a yearly website subscription (on the lowest paid plan offered) will typically run you about $200 annually.
But, you also want to make sure that you’re paying for a website that offers the resources and tools you need to advertise and operate your business.
Get familiar with offers tools
It’s important that your website operates the way you need it to and is user-friendly and efficient.
Retailers will likely want a website that offers online sales, shipping, automated emails, cart reminders, and so on. Service-based workers will likely be in need of online schedulers, email reminders, and so on.
Check and see if this is something offered on your preferred website host prior to signing up. If not, see if they offer integrations with parterned programs/tools. Sometimes, however, this comes at a higher cost.
Schedulers, calendars, galleries, e-commerce, and more are all things that are important to be on the look out for in website plans (of course, depending on your industry).
Know your preferred maintenance level
We can all do it if we put our mind to it, but website maintenence can be a lot, especially for someone not well-versed or looking to take it on.
Let’s be real, websites are work, and require upkeep! When you’re creating your website, as well as maintaining it and making regular updates, you’ll want to be familiar with the editing software each host provides.
More intricate and highly-customized websites can require knowledge about coding, and can require more behind-the-scenes editing. Whereas hosts, like Wix and Squarespace, can offer more user-friendly editing experiences where you can edit your content right on the screen.
If you’re outsourcing for website maintenance, keep in mind that some web designers niche in working with certain website hosts.
